Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United

Biography Of A Football Manager Legend:

Alex Ferguson is a legend in the world of football. In this article, I'll give you a quick history of his life so far.

Sir Alex Ferguson was born in Govan, a working class area of Glasgow. You can tell that the steel grit and determination he experienced there is still part of his core values today - hence why he is known for his "hairdryer" treatment when he takes apart under performing players at half time! He originally played for Glasgow Rangers and enjoyed a half decent career, he even owned a pub at one point but soon went into the world of management.

First, in 1874, he managed East Stirlingshire but then moved on very quickly to St Mirren, another Scottish club, where he spent four years and then was sacked.

He then went to Aberdeen where he started to make history. First, he broke the domination of Celtic and Rangers and helped Aberdeen become the first team apart from those two to ever win the league. He then went on to, incredibly, win the European Cup Winners Cup with a team that was largely made up of local Scottish lads.

Obviously, every team wanted Fergie at this point. He made the now famous move to Manchester United to replace "Big Ron" Atkinson. Ferguson is a notorious disciplinarian and he moved straight away to stamp out the drinking culture and sold a couple of dud players as an example.

The rest, as they say, is history. Ferguson has gone on to dominate the English league like no other club has done in the modern era. He is also the longest serving current manager in the league and his team has won history accolades such as the Treble - the domestic league, cup and European cup titles. No other manager in the modern era has been as successful as him.

He continues to dominate with a vastly changed team from 1999 - a new crop of youngsters with such world greats as Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.
